In 2000 when Marco was
born, my sister asked me to be his godmother. Having two children of my
own, I accepted this request with joy. In 2002, when we learned he was
diagnosed with autism, I accepted another responsibility, to help her
communicate with others in the community about the challenges and joys of
being an autistic family in a community that is not always inclusive.
Inspired by The Prophet by Khalil Gibran, I created
Living Arrows.
A short time later, as a
result of its positive impact and my desire to help individuals with
autism more directly, I created
www.WorkSmarterNowForAutism.com. This is a resource for
individuals on the spectrum to share and exchange information in a safe
environment.

A HAP is a type of quilt that is tied
together rather than sewn, providing greater flexibility and artistic
value. The Work Smarter Now For Autism HAP is a quilt of another kind,
created by individuals in the autism community.
In conjunction with the Work Smarter Now For
Autism website, I have developed a series of Autism Awareness
presentations and a Junior Autism Ambassador program, along with the HAP
Traveling Art Show,
Online Museum, and
Online Literary Magazine. |
